May River Golf Club, the Jack Nicklaus-designed course in Bluffton's Palmetto Bluff, was named the Best New Course in South Carolina for 2005 by the South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel, and for good reason. Set amid 300-year-old live oaks and brushing the banks of its' namesake, this is one of Nicklaus' finest offerings in the Lowcountry, which includes the likes of Harbourtown (a collaboration with Pete Dye) and Colleton River. This course is private, but guests of the 5-Star Inn at Palmetto Bluff, operated by the world renown Auberge Resort, are offered access.
Directions
The entrance to Palmetto Bluff is located 1.5 miles off of SC Route 46, six miles from downtown Bluffton. The address is 476 Mt Pelia Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.
